Pubs may soon find themselves stocking Cajun Squirrel flavour crisps after six new flavours have been unleashed by Walkers, as part of their Do Us A Flavour competition.
All six varieties of the crisps, which also include fish and chips, crispy duck and hoi sin, builder’s breakfast, chilli and chocolate and onion bhaji flavours, will be available to buy until May, when an overall winner will be chosen.
Fat Duck head chef and chief judge Heston Blumenthal chose the six flavours from hundreds of entries into the competition that was launched last summer, and said he was looking for creativity and new takes on classic flavours.
"The complexities of flavour fascinate me and to watch the British public get so excited about taste has been absolutely inspiring,” he enthused. "We`ve had an incredible response and sifting through the entries has been quite incredible. I can`t wait to see which one the public choose as their winner!"
The flavour that gathers the most votes on the Walkers website will be given a permanent place on the UK market, with its creator awarded £50k plus a one per cent share of royalties from future sales.
