The Gingerman group of restaurants in Brighton has announced the closure of one of its most famous sites, The Gingerman at Drakes Hotel.
Owners Ben and Pamela Mckellar have decided to close their restaurant, which was the highest rated in Brighton after the Good Food Guide awarded them six out of ten marks, to ‘focus on our other businesses’. The Ginger Fox, The Ginger Pig and The Gingerman at Norfolk Square are all stand alone premises, a structure that the Mckellar’s plan to concentrate on for the future.
The Gingerman, which opened to rave reviews when it opened in the basement of the boutique Drakes Hotel in 2004, will now be run by the hotel, and renamed The Restaurant at Drakes.
Andy McKenzie, Head Chef at The Gingerman will continue in his post that he has held for the past two years. He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be running The Restaurant at Drakes fully in tandem with this highly successful hotel. I look forward to creating exciting new menus and delivering the finest dining experience to our loyal, local customer base and our many guests from all over the UK and overseas.”
The Drakes Hotel has been voted amongst the CondT Nast Traveller’s Hot List, and provides guests with a luxury boutique experience, with the option of choosing in-room and private dining due to its on-site restaurant. The Restaurant at Drakes has now also announced it will be open to serve Christmas lunch for the first time since opening.
