Staff at Ubon by Nobu will be looking for new jobs at the end of this month following plans to relocate the Canary Wharf restaurant to another site.
The modern Japanese restaurant in Westferry Circus, which opened as Nobu group’s second London venture in 2000, will trade for the last time at its existing site on September 26.
The reason for the relocation has not been confirmed and a new site not yet identified, but it is thought the new location will be somewhere in central London to take advantage of more available evening trade.
A spokeswoman said today, "Because we do not know how long it will take to find a premises and re-open; all of the staff are being made redundant."
A letter sent to customers by the restaurant`s General Manager Stephane Guicheteau said: "Ubon by Nobu will hold its last day of trading at the original venue on Friday September 26th 2008.
"The Nobu team are currently looking at some exciting new sites for the restaurant and will of course make you aware as soon as a new location has been confirmed."
Ubon by Nobu is owned by Japanese chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa and Mr and Mrs Ong. The Executive Head Chef is currently Mark Edwards, who also holds the same position at the group`s other London restaurants at the Metropolitan Hotel and Berkeley Street, and the Restaurant Manager is Jean Lambert.
