New concept turns restaurateurs into record producers

Restaurateurs and bar owners are being given the chance to join forces with a record label to create their own compilation albums

Restaurateurs and bar owners are being given the chance to turn their hand to record production with a new idea from a record label.

The concept created by Bournemouth-based record label, Bluesmooth allows restaurants and bars to create their own compilation albums that can be played on the premises and then bought online by customers.

“The music we deal with is very down-tempo and chilled out that is perfect for restaurants and bars,” said Label Manager Graeme Rose.

“We either put the compilation together for them, or they can choose whatever they want from our catalogue and put it together themselves.”

Once 20 tracks have been chosen, Bluesmooth creates an album especially branded for the business. When finished, the album is uploaded to digital music stores such as Itunes and Napster where anyone can buy and download it.

Rose said: “We deal with the licensing and put it online The restaurant gets royalties on each album sale, so it even creates an extra revenue stream for them. If they push it in the restaurant, they could make quite a nice bit of money back.”

The price for a 20 track album, including artwork, licensing and marketing in digital music stores is £800.
