Young student cooks for Ramsay

A Bridlington student won the chance to cook for the F-Word star

A young catering student last night had the time of her life after meeting and working with Gordon Ramsay.

Lauren Hines, 16, was chosen to help cook a three-course meal for 350 diners at a Business Week 2008 event at Bridlington Spa, after winning the Young Student of the Year competition at East Riding College.

Ramsay oversaw Lauren`s work in the kitchen as she helped to create an in-house menu of wild trout, rack of lamb and chocolate-orange torte. The celebrity chef then congratulated Lauren on her award, and presented her with a certificate.

She said: “Gordon Ramsay is one of the chefs I most admire and I feel really privileged to have this opportunity."

Last night was the culmination of a year’s intense studying for her NVQ Level 2 in food preparation and cooking. She explained: “I was chosen for this by my tutor for my hard work and the progress I have made over the year. Some of my friends are jealous, but most are really pleased for me.”

The F-Word star was in town to speak on his own experiences as a businessman at the event, which was he first of many at the newly refurbished Spa.
