THE search is on to find a new hero in Scotland’s hospitality industry as the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland seeks nominations for its lifetime achievement award.

The presentation will take place at the HIT Scotland industry dinner on May 1 at the Glasgow Hilton..

A spokesman for HIT Scotland said: "The HIT Scotland Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the person who has made a unique contribution to the hospitality and tourism industry in Scotland.

"It should be someone who stands head and shoulders above their peers, in their support of the future of the industry in Scotland."

Nominees can work in any sector of the Scottish hospitality, catering and tourism industry. They must be able to demonstrate a particular commitment to raising standards in Scotland and a passion for the industry, beyond their job description.

The award will be presented at the HIT Industry Dinner, a highlight in the Scottish hospitality social calendar. The event has helped to raise over £1 million for HIT Scotland’s university bursary fund and industry scholarship programme.

Previous winners include Avril Robertson, Ken McCulloch, Peter Taylor, Tony Jackson, Stewart Cameron, James Thomson and, in 2003, Eddie Friel and Jack Munro, representing the tourist boards of Glasgow and Edinburgh. In recent years, winners have included David Cochrane, Larbi, Andrew Fairlie and, last year’s winner, Willie Pike.

If you know someone who fits the bill, please contact david.cochrane@hitscotland.co.uk with a short note about why your nominee deserves his or her award by April 11.
