Roundhay Mansion Hits Market

The impressive Roundhay Mansion in Leeds is offered to the market this week through Christie + Co.

ROUNDHAY Mansion in Leeds is officially launched on the property market this week, with Christie Co appointed by Leeds County Council to secure a new tenant.

The mansion - a grade II listed building - has recently undergone extensive repairs as part of the £8 million council-funded Roundhay Park Restoration Programme.

It was purchased from the de Lacy family and opened to the public in 1872, and consists of 9,321 sq ft of licensed property, with existing catering planning consents in place.

The landscaping is currently being returned to its original design, and the property already attracts 6,000,000 visitors a year.

Christie Co director and head of leisure & development, Jon Patrick, said: “We believe that a sympathetic restoration and refurbishment project, blended with a high quality business, can create an extremely successful destination operation.

"We expect such an opportunity to hold appeal for a variety of corporate, independent and entrepreneurial operators.

“The council’s agreement to consider making a capital contribution towards the renovation of the building, to encourage the highest quality of bids, demonstrates the social and real estate importance of the Mansion to the city of Leeds”

Leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Andrew Carter, added: "The Mansion in Roundhay Park is one of the most iconic and well-loved buildings in the city, so it is important that we get the right kind of company to run the restaurant and function facilities.

"It is very encouraging that we have already had enquiries from several interested parties and we would love to hear from as many companies as possible.

"The more interest we have the more chance we have of providing the best quality facility for the people of Leeds to make use of and enjoy."
