Spurs Bury the Hatchet with Marriott

Premier League club forgives and forgets over infamous Lasagne-Gate row at Marriott Canary Wharf in May 2006.

PREMIER League football club Tottenham Hotspur has buried the hatchet with the Marriott hotel chain following the infamous lasagne-gate incident.

Spurs stayed at the Marriott Canary Wharf prior to their final match of the 2005-06 season at West Ham United in May last year, only for a number of players to fall ill, costing them victory and ultimately a place in the following season`s lucrative Champions League.

Club officials initially blamed the defeat on food poisoning after the players had all tucked into lasagne the night before in the hotel`s restaurant.

A subsequent investigation cleared the hotel of any link, although then-boss Martin Jol was reluctant to return to the five-star hotel in London`s Docklands.

Relations have now improved to such an extent between the club and Marriott that new manager Juande Ramos has been staying at the Marriott`s Waltham Abbey branch while he looks for a new London home.

At a recent wedding at the hotel, the Tottenham boss was reportedly pleasantly surprised at being recognised by a group of Spurs-supporting guests.

Not only was he happy to sign autographs and chat in English to the fans, he also posed for a photograph with the bride and groom.
