200 Degrees coffee targets expansion

Independent coffee brand 200 Degrees has announced plans to open its fourth cafe, in Leeds, as it continues to expand across the midlands and north of England.

The Nottingham-based roasters have secured a site at 31 Bond Street, Leeds, which is undergoing a £250,000 refurbishment to re-open as a 70-cover store and barista training school in early December.

The cafe will open seven days a week, from 6.30am - 8pm Monday to Friday, creating 15 full and part-time jobs.

It forms part of a wider expansion push which could see the three-strong group nearly double in size.

200 Degrees co-founder Tom Vincent said the group was aiming to grow following the success of its current sites.

”Our three existing coffee shops seem to go from strength to strength every week and that’s given us the confidence to look to more cities,” he said.

“We have other prospects under development and aim to open two more in fairly quick succession.”

200 Degrees began life when Vincent and co-founder Rob Darby started roasting coffee in Nottingham in 2012.

The duo opened their first store in the city in 2014, followed by a second in Nottingham and a third in Birmingham in 2016.

The new Leeds cafe will feature a similar design to its sister sites but with ‘stylistic nods’ to the 20th century and the building’s ‘1970’s vintage’.

The UK coffee shop market is expected to be worth over £15bn by 2020, according to Allegra World Coffee Portal.
